Hi, I'm Mahmoud and I'm the artist behind Gyppo

I was still a civil engineer living in Kuwait until a few years back. I’ve always loved crystals, and I’ve been collecting minerals since as long as I remember. Playing with crystals, transforming them into jewellery was always the highlight of my day. After a couple of years of experimenting with different jewellery techniques, one day I happened to come across an electroformed feather! I'd never heard of electroforming, but the feather looked so real - I couldn’t accept it was man-made. After a lot of research, I realised that I could coat a real feather in copper and literally make the feather immortal! I also realised that I could not be doing anything else for a living other than jewellery :) I quit my job, moved back to Egypt, and decided to go all in. I sold my car (it was all I owned) and built a small workshop at home. And then I learned my first and most important life lesson- ALWAYS GO ALL THE WAY; if you want something, you have to invest your whole being in it. What happened next I still can’t put in words. Things just started falling into place. I met people in the right place and time who were willing to help me. I started learning so much, and so fast, that I couldn't remember my life before that.

Eight years of engineering didn’t make any sense while I was doing it. But now engineering is the foundation of what I do. It all came full circle. The chemical aspect of electroforming, the eye for design and detail, and the precision and pursuit of perfection in every piece.

Gyppo is my ever-lasting journey of self discovery. To explore my fears and push my boundaries. It’s my space for self-expression. Every piece of jewellery I create carries a part of my soul. As an introvert, it’s my ultimate way of connecting with those who appreciate my art.

I remember each piece I made. I remember the way I felt putting bits and pieces of different materials together and seeing a piece of art coming to life. I remember every client who bought a piece of jewellery from me in person. This personal genuine aspect of my business is as important as making good living. And I hope I never lose it.

All of the crystals that I use are either sourced by me or bought from a trusted mine or collector. I keep my production rate low to make sure I only use the best quality crystals I could lay my hands on.

Feathers and other organic materials that I use are all findings I collected over the years or gifts from friends and loyal clients.

I promised myself that I will always show respect to this profession. Trying my best to source all materials ethically and to keep my work as sustainable as possible.

My goal is to offer high-end jewellery that don't just take the breath away, but are also healing, unique,  and most importantly genuine.
